MAC 109 in Padua’s new pre-treatment plant for paper, cardboard and plastic packaging

AcegasApsAmga has opened a new pre-treatment facility in Padua for paper, cardboard and plastic packaging, with a processing capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes per year.

The plant, located in Corso Stati Uniti, is designed to improve the quality of material sent to recovery through automated handling, ballistic screening, metal separation and optical sorting systems.

The project also includes a MAC 109, installed in the baling section to compact selected paper, cardboard and plastic packaging into bales for handling, storage and transport.

A high-tech line for recyclable materials

The Padua plant processes material from single-material and multi-material collection streams.

Its role is to separate, classify and prepare recyclable fractions before they enter the next stages of the recovery chain.

Optical sorting is one of the key technologies in the line. It helps identify materials by type, colour and polymer composition, supporting a more controlled and traceable flow of selected fractions.

For paper, cardboard and plastic packaging, this step is central to the value of the output: cleaner material, better separation and more consistent recovery streams.

The role of the MAC 109

After selection, the material must be compacted into bales that can be handled, stored and transported efficiently.
